Finding Value of My Business

Looking to expand or merge my business with a friend but trying to find the "value" of my business. What formula would I use to get this value - I have some clients paid annual, some paying monthly, some in-house sites and a few free sites that were donated as "charity" to local groups. Much of my revenue comes from design & maintenance of the sites. I would like to be able to separate out revenue in hosting vs other income and expenses including monthly server rental, etc.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Filling out forums, registering the biz, just loosing it…

Hey all,

I'm posting here for I can not find any professional that understands what a web hosting business is, how its formed, and what exactly it needs. Or.. Perhaps they have it right and I have it wrong ( I tend to be set in my ways @ times ). Also.. I thinking this thread will help others as they move forward with starting there business... some things I'm running into is just crazy.

Doing business
So I established my LLC in the state of DE (Delaware). It's currently registered under a register in that state for I do not live DE, but in the state of PA. Then they transferred the management role over to me (very typical) and all is going well.

All the permits!!
Next thing i did was to file a right to do business in the state of DE. This was tricky... for they want to have a physical address either in the state of DE or in another state. NO P.O. boxes. I do not have a physical address in the state of DE, but yet I will be doing business in DE (where servers are located). Upon talking to there customer service at onstop.delaware.gov they told me that yes, I would need a business license, and that I could use my PA P.O. BOX as the business address.

Tax identification number (also known of employee ID) which was filed on my behalf by the company that registered my LLC and was also registered at my P.O. Box in PA.

Banking seamed to be the hardest part of this and I'm still a little stuck. I was told by an accountant that it was recommended to have a separate bank account for the company for the state of DE requires finical statements when it comes to tax time. According to the state of PA Company compliance hot line, as long as I do not have anything associated with the business (address (other then mailing), employees, store, taking payments, or any other business related activity) I could stay in pa and manage the company from my computer @ my house. BUT... every bank wants a physical address of the business for there accounts. Since I do not have own any kind of business property, and since I rent... I could not add my house to anything associated to the business. So the friendly reps @ bank of America said I should just use my home address to start the account... then move it all over to my PA post office box. I have yet to complete this process and I'm thinking that I will be screwed at some point by giving the bank my physical address (something about connecting the business bank account to PA, and not DE).

so my questions for you all is the following.

1) did you bother to register your business as a corp or an LLC? Or did you just stop at the point of doing business as?

2) What kind of address did you use? Did you rent office space? Do you run it out of your house?

3) Banking... did you start your own account?

Help to make a hiring decision.

hi folks ,

Just want to clear a doubt .

A single owner-cum-operator ( sales , billing , support ) is running a successful hosting company. Support & Sales was taking up most of his time . So he decided to expand his team ( & thereby catch some sleep).

Company has a budget of $2500 / month for support . The owner can

*) hire a geeky tech for $2500 .
OR
*) hire 2 inexperienced guys who are ready to handle sales , billing & suppport for $3000.

What will you do or what will you check, if you are in the owner's shoes.?

Should I offer discounts on year hosting?

Hello,

I am doing hosting just for Friends and Family and offer $16 for 50MB to start then grow that up to 500MB. I am focusing on quality of service and not being a cheapo host as that's what I am trying to prevent my friends from falling into.

one friend who now has 2 sites with me, and PayPal stopped all my subscriptions (any idea as to why? I went into the plugins and changed the GoDaddy one). $16x12=$192-$6.06 in PayPal fees. He wants $300 for both sites, but that's a 22% discount, a bit steep since I am trying to offer quality service and not cheap service. My clients are going to be low like 20 with maybe 50 sites tops. I was thinking 1 free month so 11x$15=$330 and I am dropping the $24 paypal charge of $10.20 which makes for $319.80 which means I loose $64.20 or $32/site year. I have full phone support etc.

What do I do? Anything else I should be thinking about? Maybe only offer it by the year? like my $75 annual yourname@yourdomain.com?

Hypernia Web Hosting, Partners with GamesMasters.com, for Cabal Online

Manchester, United Kingdom - (The Hosting News) - June 30, 2008 - Online hosting services and solutions for the interactive entertainment industry, Hypernia Hosting Corp, has become a global partner with U.K.-based game publisher, GamesMasters.com LTD, for the MMO game, Cabal Online.

Hypernia was selected by GamesMasters.com LTD as their official international online partner based on Hypernia's lengthy and successful history in the online games space, as it is known for providing tier-1 bandwidth for CDN, gaming and media streaming. Hypernia's large volumes of equipment, bandwidth and facilities around the world enable game players to enjoy a robust multi-player experience.

GamesMasters.com publishes high quality games for the European online games market. GamesMasters.com is best known for their successful MMO title, Cabal Online, an RPG game product with 90,000 users, with a recent acceleration in subscribers to an additional 10,000 players per week. This rapid rate of increase in players, plus a high level of customer service, ensures that the game remains one of the best free-to-play games on the market.

James Vallord-Costa, CEO and co-founder of Hypernia, noted, ''GamesMasters.com cut their costs for bandwidth considerably after joining us. With the 'flex computing' capability of our on-demand utility hosting model, they were able to add new expansions and games without the added risk. Most companies would not be able to experiment with a new expansion or game, but we made it easy for them.''

GamesMasters.com will utilize Hypernia's on-demand utility hosting model which provided flexibility and cost savings, enabling the company to undergo significant service improvements in recent months. These included the addition of updated payment methods, the release of several large patches which has vastly increased the content of the game Cabal Online, a host of new features including new hunting grounds (the Chaos Arena), new rewards for Player vs Player action (players can now gain EXP from PvP) and several important bug fixes. As a direct result of their hosting partnership with Hypernia, these upgrades have produced positive results and Cabal Online is now one of the largest games in Europe.

Hypernia provided multi-gigabit feeds as GamesMasters.com increased their player base. This functionality guaranteed an excellent Internet connection for players, no matter how many extra users were online simultaneously. To accommodate for game world growth, Hypernia also provided GamesMasters.com with new servers during different periods, while also providing an inexpensive CDN solution to keep the GamesMasters.com patches and downloads affordable for all the new users.

Thorsten Schauer, company Director at GamesMasters.com LTD offered, ''GamesMasters.com believes that game play should be easy and convenient for all MMORPG game players. With that in mind, Cabal Online was designed for new users and other MMORPG users who will be able to easily adapt to our game system. Cabal Online does not require long periods of game play. Hypernia's role as our global hosting partner has been instrumental to our marketplace achievements with this game play plan for our customers.''

By allowing GamesMasters.com to host their own files, Hypernia helped keep users on the Cabal Online web site, instead of impacting the site's ''stickiness'' by driving players to third parties for file down-loading. Hypernia also provided full 24-hour customer support, a crucial feature since more than fifty percent of the Cabal Online players are based in Europe.

With the intention of providing a rich diversity of gaming styles for our customers, Games-Masters.com publishes MMO games from both the USA and Asia. The product of these two deeply differing cultures provided a gaming experience to suit all, and even niche groups of players. Initially, GamesMasters.com began publishing games crossing several genres such as Fantasy, Sports, Real Time Strategies and even Casual gaming, before expanding further into other genres.

Founded in 2001, Hypernia Hosting Corp engaged the Internet data center market with innovative service offerings that would help businesses and individuals take advantage of the speed and global reach of technology and the Internet. Hypernia believes that for organizations to be successful, they need a partner that provides solutions that spark independence and confidence in their new way of doing business. Hypernia established its high volume network for intense application hosting such as online gaming in 2002, and continues to be a leading provider of complex Internet hosting for enterprises with mission-critical Internet operations.
